The global pandemic has upset all the assets, also severely hitting the sports entertainment business. WWE has been forced to release large numbers of superstars over the past year and a half, as well as several behind-the-scenes insiders.
Despite having returned to host live fans, the Stamford-based federation is facing a sudden drop in ratings and the rise of AEW. Tony Khan’s company has taken over in the 18 to 49-year-old demographic, thanks in part to the recent hires of CM Punk and Bryan Danielson.
During the latest edition of ‘Legion of RAW’ on Sportskeeda, former WWE and WCW writer Vince Russo sent a brutally honest message to Vince McMahon. From his point of view, the rebirth of WWE necessarily passes through the estrangement of the man who made it famous all over the world.
Vince Russo slams Vince McMahon
“Vince McMahon has to retire, there is no alternative. He is killing this company and contributing to the loss of product appeal. He is destroying everything, I don’t know if I give the idea” – Vince Russo warned.
“Nick Khan knows this industry very well and knows how to raise the fortunes of WWE, but he is too blocked by Vince. The company cannot be run by a 76-year-old man. When I’m that age, you won’t see me do it. podcasts or similar activities.
I will step aside and leave room for young people. I’m sorry to be so brutal, but it’s time for Vince to retire” – he analyzed. Russo added further: “I believe that Vince does not even realize how poor the quality of the current product is.
As for the rise of All Elite Wrestling, he is repeating what happened in the WCW days. When the WCW started kicking our asses, Vince took on a victim attitude. He is doing it even now. Vince is not the victim, he is the culprit of this whole process.”
It was also added that Roman Reigns and Brock Lesnar are the only two superstars who earn $5 million per year. While a few other top-tier stars make around $3 million, others are poorly remunerated considering the company’s record profit.
Here’s what was reported on WOR via CageSideSeats: “On Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer indicated that every wrestler in WWE is underpaid because only about 8% of WWE’s total revenue is paid to the wrestlers.
Roman Reigns and Brock Lesnar are the only wrestlers making five million dollars per year, and a couple others make north of three million dollars per year. Vince McMahon thinks many of the wrestlers are overpaid.”
