According to the well-known Mat Men Pro Wrestling journalist Andrew Zarian, Retro Raw will return in January 2022. However, no official date has been announced. Obviously, according to early speculations, it is, therefore, possible that WWE will organize an old-fashioned evening, as it did on the occasion of Throwback Friday Night SmackDown this year, with maybe even some legends present.
These episodes usually shift ratings quite a bit, so WWE may have something great in their plans to further boost ratings and bring some interest back into the company. Recently, as we have seen, old formats of the company have been brought back, such as the King of the Ring.
But there was also a Legend Night, again on Raw, on January 4, 2021, where we saw many men and women from the WWE past. In 2019, WWE also did Raw Reunion on July 22. The event featured John Cena, Hulk Hogan, Steve Austin, Ric Flair, Kurt Angle, and many others.
While the latest official edition of Retro Raw took place on January 6, 2014, with Old School Raw, which was highlighted by the return of Jake Roberts.
WWE returns to the past with Retro Raw
WWE will reportedly bring back the retro-themed edition of Raw in January, continuing the brand’s history of throwback shows.
Older shows, in general, aren’t the only thing that could come back, in fact, WWE, according to rumors reported by WrestleVotes on Twitter in mid-June, would also like to revive themed shows. “I’ve heard WWE is potentially looking for more themed live shows when they return to the road.
Old School Raw, the King Of The Ring tournament, Viewers Choice like Cyber Sunday, all for the end of 2021, early 2022”. Be careful, because a couple of those that were listed in that tweet, namely the King of the Ring and Old School Raw, are practically back, so we cannot exclude the arrival of everything else slowly.
It would be a real leap into the past for the entire WWE Universe, perhaps even with a touch of modernity. WWE last held a nostalgia-themed episode of the red brand with RAW Legends Night in January 2021. Hulk Hogan, Sgt. Slaughter, Teddy Long (who, appropriately, booked a tag team match), and others appeared on the show.
It’s unclear what fans can expect from this edition of Retro Raw, but it will likely include set design and graphics from the show’s past. It’s possible we may see The Undertaker’s first appearance since his retirement, although he recently made it clear that he doesn’t have any intention of returning to the ring in an active capacity.
