Becky Lynch made her sensational return to SummerSlam last Saturday, ending an absence of over a year due to her first pregnancy. Against all odds on the eve, ‘The Man’ defeated Bianca Belair in just 27 seconds, once again establishing himself as one of the iconic faces of WWE.
Among the fans and insiders, many did not like the progress of the match between Lynch and Belair, which was only useful to detract from the good that Bianca had done in recent months. In a long conversation on Sportskeeda, former WWE and WCW writer Vince Russo explained how WWE should consider making Becky measure up to the stars of the male roster.
Vince Russo talks about Becky Lynch
“I understand that this is a possibility bordering on the unlikely, I realize it” – began Vince Russo. “It’s the only solution that comes to mind since there is no superstar on the female roster who can stand up to her.
Becky Lynch should look around her and claim that she has already beaten all the champions she has met along her path. She has nothing more to prove. Her desire to go to the next level would lead her to confront men” – she speculated.
The Irish champion has already had the chance to fight a man. In the episode of SmackDown that aired on November 7, 2017, Lynch defeated James Ellsworth in a match that lasted seven minutes. Becky also took part in three mixed tag team meetings with Seth Rollins in the summer of 2019.
According to Russo, another hypothesis would be to have Becky Lynch and Seth Rollins work with Scarlett and Karrion Kross. “I think it would have been good to have her involved in a story like that. The feud could begin with a fight between Seth Rollins and Karrion Kross, and then the two girls intervened.
The problem is that WWE hasn’t built credible rivals that can bother Becky. Just scroll the roster to realize it”. According to Andrew Zarian of the Mat Men Pro Wrestling podcast, the company already had plans for The Man to appear on the show, but her winning the title wasn’t part of those plans.
“I was told this was not gonna be the ending, obviously,” said Andrew Zarian. “She was gonna show up on this card. Becky Lynch was always gonna come out for this live crowd. That was not something that was last minute.
The title change was the difference, that was something new. That was not planned…that was an adjustment, they made it and we’ll see where it goes on Friday”.
